MID-YEAR MINDSET

MID-YEAR MINDSET

Mid-Year Mindset

(Even if your Season is just beginning!)

Mid-year mindset tips for triathletes!

June is where the season starts to take shape. Some athletes are racing already, some are just getting into open water, and others are building toward late‑summer or fall goals like Nationals, 70.3 worlds, or their first Sprint Tri. No matter where you are on the calendar, these four mindset anchors keep training grounded, confident, and moving forward towards your limitless potential.

  1. Re‑Anchor Your Why

When training gets harder and life gets louder, your “why” becomes your stabilizer. Revisit the reason you signed up, the version of yourself you’re building, and the feeling you want on that finish line. While doubt and lack of motivation is normal for both new and experienced athletes, a clear why turns midseason doubt into direction. So, what's your why?

  2. Win the Week, Not the Season

Normally I'm telling athletes to zoom out and see the big picture, but let's look at why zooming in a bit right now can be a good thing. Forget the finish line for a moment and focus on the next session, the next brick, the next recovery day done well. Consistency compounds. Small wins stacked weekly create the engine you’ll race with later this season. And besides, the real magic is in all the work you put in, day in and day out, to achieve that finish line!

  3. Detach Identity from One Workout

Mid‑year is prime time for catastrophizing a bad session. One workout is data, not destiny. I recently explained this to an athlete by using the analogy of pebbles on a beach. One bad workout is like a single pebble on a big, beautiful beach that you’ve been creating week after week. We have to zoom out and see the whole beach we've created - don't let that one little pebble bring you down! In the end, progress is built across weeks, and it’s never defined by a single day or workout.

  4. Celebrate Micro‑Wins

Confidence grows from noticing the small things, like faster transitions, feeling a bit stronger than you did yesterday, recovering quickly, stronger mental resets, consistent fueling, etc. These micro‑wins are the real markers of momentum. Don't forget to take some time to celebrate these wins! How do you start? I recommend starting a list in the note's app of your phone with the little moments and highlights you are proud of and by the end of the season you're going to be amazed by your progress!
